Message from the President

"Old order changeth, yielding place to new". The last decade has seen the evolution of not only new techniques and disease entities, but also, newer classifications, redefined definitions and criteria, based on ancillary techniques, which help in understanding the pathological process, and thereby the disease; aimed at ensuring uniformity in diagnosis. Treatment modalities have changed, based on this understanding and post therapy material is being assessed to gauge their efficiency. On the other side surgical skills have improved the competence related to particular specialities and utilization of various prognostic indices and adjuvant therapy, has resulted in radical surgery giving way to conservative procedures, in more and more areas.
The practice of laboratory medicine today is a multispeciality discipline, analyzing various aspects and joining hands with the clinician, the surgeon and the oncologist in patient management. Scientific organizations aim at updating knowledge and its proper and regular dissemination, which enhance its academic standing and image. It's the individual's responsibility to practice it, in rendering service to the patient.
Let us all be a dedicated team.
Wishing you all a peaceful and prosperous future, with congenial neighbours and harmonious nature.

Dr Panchanadam Madanagopalan

Editor's Message

It is with great happiness that I present to you this combined issue of the IAP-ID Newsletter (Vol 5, Nos 1 - 2, January - July 2002). The January 2002 issue could not be published separately due to lack of a sponsor at that time.
It has been my endevour to provide members with relevant information about the Divisional activities as well as other useful information of benefit to members. For the first time the Newsletter has six pages instead of the usual four pages. I hope you find this Newsletter informative and enjoyable.
Getting sponsors for the Newsletter has been a persistent difficulty. I appeal to all members to make special efforts to get sponsors for our Divisional Newsletter so as to make it financially independent from the corpus resources of the IAP-ID. The sponsors you arrange should send in their Demand Drafts in favour of "Secretary / Treasurer, IAP - Indian Division" payable at "Panali ( Goa )" and send it to the following address: Dr. Francisco Couto, 714, La Campala Colony, Panaji - 403001, Goa.
I wish you a pleasant reading.
