It is with great happiness that I present to you the current issue of the IAP-ID Newsletter (Vol 11, No 1, January 2008) providing a vista into the recent and forth coming activities of the Indian Division of the IAP.
Since its inception I have always striven to constantly improve the form and content of the Newsletter so as it is not only informative to the members but also makes attractive reading. I would appreciate if all those members involved in various activities of the IAP and the IAP-ID can send in their inputs to me so as the relevant material may be incorporated in the Divisional Newsletter.

In order that it does not drain the corpus of the IAP-ID the Newsletter needs to be self financing. I once again earnestly appeal to all members to use your good offices to arrange sponsors and advertisers for the IAP-ID Newsletter. The sponsors / advertisers should send their advertisement material and Demand Drafts in favour of “Secretary & Treasurer, IAP- Indian Division” payable at “Panaji (Goa)” and send it to the following address: Dr. Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, IAPIndian Division, 714, La Campala Colony, Panaji 403001, Goa.

Besides the Guest Lecture and a Slide Seminar by the invited foreign speaker it was decided that the Slide Seminar would be on “Non Neoplastic Paediatric Pathology” to be moderated by Dr. B. M. Dr. Harilal sought the help and support of the members to make the meeting a grand success. The General Body impressed upon Dr. Harilal the need for urgency in finalizing the arrangements of the meeting. In other matters discussed with permission from the Chair the proposal for reducing the term of the President was not accepted as it was not in keeping with the constitution of the IAP and Dr. Couto, Secretary & Treasurer IAP-ID, was asked to examine other proposals like President Elect. Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Couto proposed that the IAP-ID membership Fees for foreign members from neighbouring poor countries should be fixed at a lower rate than at present which was agreed to and a rate of Rs. 600 was approved the General Body. The General Body felt that for the other foreign members the fees should be increased from the current fee to a fee of US $ 30 per year which was approved. Dr. Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, informed the General Body of the proposal and discussions held with Prof. V. V. Joshi (representing AIPNA) with Dr. Couto (representing IAP-ID) regarding co-operation between AIPNA and IAP-ID wherein it was agreed that AIPNA would help in providing resource persons for academic programmes only if there was a specific need for such by the IAP-ID on particular occasions and IAP-ID would not be providing a fixed slot for speaker from AIPNA. This was approved by the General Body.

The General Body also approved the proposal made by Dr. Couto that the Annual Meeting of IAP-ID be renamed as the Annual Conference of the IAP-ID and also that it should be highlighted that APCON is the joint meeting of IAP-ID and IAPM. Dr. Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, also proposed the creation of a new category of Associate Members consisting of Post Graduate students and others in keeping with the provisions of the constitution. These Associate members would have no voting rights or other statutory rights of full members and would have to become full members of the IAP-ID on attaining their post graduate qualification. This was approved by the General Body and a fee of Rs. 250 was fixed for these Associate Members and Dr. Couto was asked to formulate the rules for the same.

Dr. Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, on behalf of the IAP-ID, thanked Dr. Jaime Prat, Dr. Ann Marie Nelson, Dr. Manoj Singh and his team and Dr. Kusum Joshi and her panelists for their contribution to the success of the scientific programme. The Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Couto expressed gratitude and thanks to Dr. S. Datta Gupta, Secretary IAPM, for so graciously consenting to having the Annual Meeting of the IAP-ID in conjunction with the IAPM Conference. On behalf of the IAP-ID, Dr. Couto expressed deep appreciation and thanks to Dr. Kusum Joshi, Chairperson, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Vasishta, Organizing Secretary, for hosting the Meeting and for the excellent arrangements.
