Message from The President |
Dear Members, Wish you all a Happy New Year. I deem it a great honour to be elected as President of IAP-ID. Stepping into the shoes of eminent predecessors is daunting. It is only with your continuous guidance and cooperation, I will be able to maintain the standard of our association and attempt to excel in all spheres of activity. With the ongoing knowledge explosion through advances in Information technology, updating of one's area of expertise becomes imminent, since the gap between well-informed and ill-informed is widening rapidly. CMEs, Seminars, Workshops and Symposia, besides conferences help to bridge these gaps at National and International levels. In depth study and Documentation of interpretive and diagnostic problems and their solution by Laboratory aids or expertise gained from literature is an important aspect of the self teaching - learning process. Inherent diagnostic errors can be avoided by cooperation between the Clinician, Laboratory and imaging technologists and the Pathologist with good quality sections. Latent errors can be minimized by awareness of newer entities, by updating knowledge and interlaboratory cooperation We are constrained by non-affordability of equipment and research methodologies, now used by advanced centers in diagnostic problem solving. Sharing of knowledge and laboratory facilities with healthy interaction between individuals and Institutions are a priority in our country. Let us all academically collaborate, in rendering service to the all important patient. Dr M Panchanadam |

Editor's Message |
We are in the 4th year of publication of the IAP-ID Newsletter and I hope you are finding it informative and worth reading. It has been my endeavor to provide members with relevant information about the Divisional activities as well as providing other useful inputs for the benefit of the members. One persistent difficulty has been getting sponsors for the Newsletter. I appeal to all members to make special efforts to get sponsors for our Divisional Newsletter so as to make it financial independent from the corpus resources of the IAP-ID. The sponsors you arrange should send in their demand drafts in favour of "Secretary / Treasurer, LAPIndian Division" payable at "Panali (Goa)" and send it to the following address: Dr. Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, IAP-Indian Division, 714, La Campala Colony, Panaji 403 001, Goa. However the members felt that inorder to make this task easier, annoumcement be made in the IAP-ID Newsletter inviting members interested in organizing or moderating such academic activities to send in their concrete proposals for the next year to the Secretary & Treasurer well before the Annual Meeting. This would help in ensuring that various proposals can be better evaluated and decided upon by the Council and General Body of the IAP-ID. The President Dr. K.R. Harilal and the Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Francisco Couto emphasized the need for members to try to arrange sponsors for the publication of the Newsletter and Address Book. Members congratulated Dr. Francisco Couto, the Editor, IAP-ID Newsletter, for the excellent Newsletter, which they said was of international standard. The President and the Secretary & Treasurer again stressed the need for members to pay their membership dues in time and again highlighted the various problems that non payment and late payment causes to the Division. There was a suggestion from some members that membership fees should be enhanced, however the Secretary & Treasurer and the majority of the members felt that this was not necessary at the present juncture. Dr. Anita Borges highlighted the very poor attendance of Indian members at various international events of the IAP. Members agreed that the large cost involved was the main reason for poor attendance. The Secretary & Treasurer expressed gratitude and thanks to Dr. K.R. Secretary and Treasurer's Column |
Let me begin by wishing you and your families a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2001. It has been my proud and happy privilege to welcome 49 new members to the IAP-ID this year. I am sure that we will have active and enthusiastic participation from them. The last Annual Meeting of the IAP-ID was held at Safdarjang Hospital, New Delhi, in November 2000 and was very well attended and much appreciated. On behalf of the IAP-ID, our thanks are due to Dr. Stephen Weinstein from Australia, the Guest Speaker, and Dr. K. Uma Chaturvedi and Dr. R. Dawar and their teams for providing an interesting scientific session. Our gratitude and thanks are also due to Dr. V. H. Talib, the Organising Secretary, for the excellent arrangements. The third IAP-ID Annual CME was held at the SDM Hospital, Jaipur, also in November 2000, or. the topic of "Recent Advances in Lymphoid Neoplasia". The CME was very ably organized by Dr. B.C. Sangal, and was a grand success. The IAP-ID expresses its gratitude and thanks to Dr. B.C. Sangal, and also to Dr. Anita Borges and Dr. K. N. Naresh from Tata Memorial Hospital for conduct of the scientific session. This year too we have the regular academic programmes scheduled throughout the year. The Mid Year Teaching Programme will be organized by Dr. K. Gayathri at Hyderabad on 2nd & 3rd June on "Interpretation of Trephine Biopsy of Bone Marrow". The 4th Annual CME will be held by Dr. Roshini Chinoy at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, on October 13th & 14th, on the topic of "Predictive Oncology". The Annual Meeting will be in conjunction with the IAPM Conference on 13th December at Mumbai and includes a guest lecture by invited foreign speaker Dr. Antonio Nascimento from Mayo Clinic, USA; Symposium on " Utility of Kidney Biopsy in Clinical Practice" moderated by Dr. N. Ranadive, Mumbai, and a Slide Seminar on " Mediastinal Lesions" moderated by Dr. Kusum Joshi, Chandigarh. I am sure all of you will participate with gusto in these various activities of the IAP-ID. The IAP-ID Newsletter besides being distributed to the members when it is released is also now available on the net on the IAP Home Page. We express our deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Robin Cooke, Editor, Intemational Pathology, a very good friend of the Indian Division, for having taken the pains to get our Divisional Newsletter on the IAP Home Page. On behalf of the IAP-ID, I wish to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to Dr C.V Raghuveer for so generously donating a srum of Rs. 5000 to the IAP-ID. Your gesture is deeply appreciated, Dr. Raghuveer. Many thanks are also due to a benefactor from Chennai, a clinical doctor who wishes to remain anonymous, who has also very generously donated a sum of Rs. 5000 to the IAP-ID, through the good offices of Dr. Panchanadam Madanagopalan. Our profuse thanks and gratitude for this gesture. The IAP-ID also thanks M/s. J. Mitra & Co. Ltd. for their financial support to the IAP-ID Newsletter obtained through the good offices of the Secretary & Treasurer, IAP-ID. It is indeed painful to see that in spite of many reminders quite a few members do not pay their membership dues in time or owe back arrears. This adversely affects the divisional finances and also prevents such members from enjoying the full benefits of their membership. My earnest appeal to all such members to please clear your dues immediately. I end by sending my warmest regards and best wishes to you all.
