The United States and Canadian Division of the IAP currently has 10,500 members, including 1,968 Junior Members.
The 2008 annual meeting in Denver provides an abundance of educational opportunities. A total of 1,708 abstracts will be presented. There are 60 short courses, including 9 new courses. The Long Course on Neoplasia of the Kidneys and Urinary Bladder is co-directed by Drs. John N. Eble and David J. Grignon. A new Special Course Basic Principles and Practice of Molecular Pathology in Cancer is directed by Dr. Julia Bridge. It will present an overview of the basic genetic principles of common oncologic molecular diagnostic testing and provide information on tests available and their application. The other Special Course Advanced Molecular Pathology is continued and will be presented on Tuesday this year. It focuses on translational issues that link basic discoveries with the practice of pathology. Additional highlights of this year’s program include the Nathan Kaufman Timely Topics Lecture which will be presented by Dr. Frank McKeon and is entitled p63 Through the Ages. Dr. Christopher D.M. Fletcher will deliver the Maude Abbott Lecture, The Future of Academic Anatomic Pathology: Challenges and Opportunities.
The special offerings just for housestaff are continued at this 2008 Annual Meeting: 1) The
Fellowship Fair provides an opportunity for representatives from institutions to advertise their various fellowships free of charge. 2) The Housestaff Specialty Conference on Sunday night is organized by Drs. John Goldblum and Christina Isacson. This year’s topic is The Practice of Pathology - Community and Academics and will feature Richard Horowitz and Jeffrey Myers as speakers. Another popular feature of the conference is the panel discussion where housestaff attendees have the opportunity to ask questions. 3) The Housestaff Hospitality room will be open on Monday and Tuesday and will provide a continental breakfast and a light lunch for housestaff. At breakfast and lunch many renowned pathologists have agreed to be present in the room for 1:1 interactions with housestaff.
Beginning in January 2008, credit hours earned at any of the three of the smaller courses
(Diagnostic Pathology, Diagnostic Cytopathology and Practical Pathology Seminars) may may be used as AMA Category 1 CME hours or as American Board of Pathology Self-Assessment Module credit hours. In addition 24 of the short courses presented at the Annual Meeting also may be used as SAMs credits. Each year the new courses are added so that in a couple of years all 60 short courses may be used as SAMs.
The Practical Pathology Seminars course was offered for the second time May 3-6, 2007 and held held at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa in Cancun Mexico, with an attendance of 43. The Diagnostic Cytopathology course, directed by Dr. Celeste Powers, was presented for the fourth time January 19-22, 2008 in Carefree, AZ and attracted 61 registrants.
The 2007 Diagnostic Pathology Course was held July 14 - 20 in Banff, Alberta, Canada and had 147 registrants from around the world. For the first time this course qualified for Self-
Assessment Module Credits. The SAM test, evaluation and CME claim form were all done
online. It allowed for a more complete evaluation of each speaker, and we received the lengthiest and most useful report of any course, ever. This format will be gradually incorporated for all USCAP offerings. The 2008 Diagnostic Pathology course will be presented July 12 - 18 in Maui, Hawaii.
The USCAP is conducting a search for the next editor of Laboratory Investigation, who will start in January 2009.
Educational Materials are continually being added to the The Knowledge Hub on the USCAP website (www.uscap.org). All of the teaching materials from the Annual Meetings of 2002-2007, with a table of contents and a search function are available on the website. In addition, over 300 virtual slides are now available for study. Handouts for Companion Society symposia and Specialty Conference slides and case histories are placed on the website prior to the annual meeting. For the 2008 meeting most specialty conferences also have virtual slides available for review. The complete handout is placed on the website the morning after the conference. These are not available in advance in order not to give away the diagnoses. Pathologists around the world can visit the website and see either virtual slides or high quality jpeg images, a discussion of the differential diagnosis, and references which they can study even if they cannot come to the meeting. The USCAP also continues to send surplus educational materials around the world to those IAP divisions with the greatest need as well as others. Course materials from the 2006 IAP Centennial Congress in Montreal are also posted on the USCAP website.
Respectfully Submitted,
Harvey Goldman, M.D.

THE ARAB DIVISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF PATHOLOGY
REPORT OF ACTIVITIES FOR 2007/2008
INTRODUCTION
The year 2007 had witnessed several spots of unrest in the Middle East region. The political instability in some countries had affected the ability of the Arab Division to perform its functions in a smooth normal manner.
Our annual meeting for 2007 was scheduled to be held in early November 2007 in Beirut, Lebanon. However, that country was plagued by unstable volatile political situation following a war perpetrated against it in the summer of 2006. The local organizers in Lebanon figured out that the security concerns do not help in holding the meeting in Lebanon.
It was decided that either we cancel the annual meeting for 2007, or look for an alternative place to hold the meeting. Our Syrian colleagues stepped in and they offered to hold the meeting in the historical city of Aleppo, Syria. They coordinated with their Lebanese colleagues mainly our Secretary Dr Ghazi Zaatari to ensure the success of this meeting.
The meeting was held in December 2007. All the invited guests came and there was good attendance of pathologists from Arab, European and North American countries.
Keeping that in mind, the Arab Division of IAP is trying, in spite of the wars and political instability plaguing the region, to offer the Arab pathologists in 22 Arab countries all what it can in continuing medical education in histopathology and cytopathology, with special attention paid for the young pathologists in training. We are offering awards for this young generation to encourage them in pursuing research and further study on aspects of pathology in their countries.
The 19th Congress of the Arab Division of IAP Aleppo, Syria
This congress was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Aleppo, Syria on December 7-9, 2007. The meeting was held under the auspices of HE the Syrian Prime Minister Mr. Mohammad Naji Otri. The meeting’s President was Prof. Dr. Nizar Akeel, President of Aleppo University. Dr. Akeel is also Professor of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine of Aleppo University.
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zahi Chawwaf and Prof. Dr. Sarab Agha were in charge of the Scientific Committee and the Organizing Committee. Dr Wael Sakr, Prof. of Pathology at Wayne State School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan, and Dr Ghazi Zaatari, Secretary of the Arab Division and Prof. of Pathology at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon offered a lot of support in securing speakers for the meeting and in making the move of the venue of the meeting from Beirut to Aleppo as smooth as possible. Their efforts in ensuring the success of this meeting are greatly appreciated.
The meeting was opened officially at the Grand Hall of the Faculty of Medicine of Aleppo University. Dr. Akeel, President of the Meeting, Dr. El-Hindawi, the outgoing President of the Arab Division, Dr. Zaatari, Secretary of the Arab Division, and Dr. Chawwaf and other organizers attended the opening ceremony.
This congress had a significant attendance of members from Arab Middle Eastern countries including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Palestine. There was a delegation from Algeria, the host country for the next meeting in 2008. Few pathologists came from Tunisia and Morocco. Several pathologists from France attended the meeting. A total of 135 pathologists, (including 53 trainees) and 35 accompanying guests attended the meeting.
Our annual lecture on history of medicine was presented by Prof. Abdelkhalek Ben
Rejeb. It was entitled “Embryology in Arab-Islamic Medicine”.

ARAB-BRITISH SCHOOL OF PATHOLOGY AND THE ARAB SCHOOL OF PATHOLOGY
Fifth Tutorial of the Arab-British School of Pathology Gynecological Pathology Irbid, Jordan
This tutorial was scheduled to be held in December 2006 in Beirut, Lebanon.
However, in the aftermath of the war against Lebanon in the summer of 2006, we thought it is most appropriate to move this tutorial to another country for many considerations. We consulted Prof Kristin Henry on this issue, and she conveyed our ideas to the British Division.
We selected Jordan as an alternative venue to hold this tutorial. Dr Maysa Al- Hussaini, FRCPath, Consultant pathologist at King Hussein Cancer Center, Amman, Jordan had been instrumental in organizing this seminar.
There were 59 participants coming from 8 countries including Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Iraq but the vast majority were from different pathology departments and schools in Jordan including Universities, Ministry of Health, Military Services and Private sector.
The main aim was to give a condensed practical course in gynecological pathology which was covered by two distinguished speakers from the UK, namely Prof. W. Glenn McCluggage, Royal Group of Hospitals, and Dr. Terry Rollason, Birmingham Women’s Hospital . Local staff contributed to this tutorial as well.
The tutorial was hosted by the Pathology Department at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in Irbid, the second biggest city in Jordan. The head of the Department at JUST Dr Ismail Matalka did a great job through facilitating the venue, the microscopes for reviewing the cases as well as the coffee breaks.
There were two morning session consisting of lectures followed by afternoon case presentations/ slide seminars. Dr Al-Hussaini and Dr Matalka shared presenting some cases.
The feed back from all participants was very positive, especially that practical real life problematic cases were discussed.

Our Division supported the following meetings, as it did in the past, held in various Arab and non-Arab countries by contributing speakers for lectures or slide seminars:
1. The Third Ibn Sina International Congress of Pathology and Cytology.
It was held in Tunis, Tunisia on June 6-7, 2007. The main theme is Hematopathology.
It was followed by a three day tutorial on liver pathology under the auspices of the Arab School of Pathology.
Dr Abdelkhalek Ben Rejeb was the coordinator for this meeting and tutorial.
2. The Second Meeting of the Ukrainian Division of IAP.
It was held in Kiev on May 16-17, 2007. It was organized by Dr. Alina Romanenko, President of the Ukrainian Division of IAP with support from other Ukrainian pathologists. Dr. Romanenko is the founder of the Ukrainian Division of IAP. Her efforts are remarkable and are greatly appreciated.
Dr. Samir S Amr, Vice President of Asia, along with Dr. Frances Jaubert, Past President, IAP, Dr George Kontogeorgos, Vice President for Europe attended the meeting. There were additional guest speakers from USA, Japan, Russia and Sweden.
Dr. Amr presented 70 DVDs of USCAP educational presentations and courses in the name of IAP and the Arab Division (which covered the cost of the DVDs) to the participants of the meeting.
Dr. Amr gave a slide seminar on soft tissue tumors. Other speakers made presentations on prostate tumors, urothelial malignancies, pituitary tumors, lymphoma, pediatric tumors, tumor markers and more.
3. The First Western Indian Ocean Pathologists Meeting (WIOPM).
It was held in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar on August 15-18, 2007.
This idea of holding the first pathology meeting in Madagascar was initially conceived by Dr. Frank Kiel. Dr. Kiel had been volunteering his time and expertise in Madagascar for over 8 years as a Project Director for Operations for Pathologists Overseas, a nonprofit California corporation. He contacted Dr Amr to get support of IAP on this meeting, and this was approved by the Educational Committee. Dr. Martin Hale, Vice president for Africa was involved with the South African Division of IAP in supporting this meeting from the start.
Dr Kiel and his dynamic wife Ruth helped in organizing the meeting along with local Malagasy pathologists, particularly Dr. Andriamanantsoa Rakouth and Dr. Ramiandrasoa A. Lalaoarifetra. The President of the meeting was Prof. Nantenaina Randrianjafisamindrakotroka, from the Medical School of the University of Antananarivo.
The scientific program includes lectures from guest speakers and papers from Malagasy pathologists, oncologists and surgeons.
Dr Amr gave a presentation on histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (KikuchiFujimoto’s disease) and its differential diagnosis. There were many questions related to other types of lymphadenitis particularly tuberculous lymphadenitis which is quite common in Madagascar.
Dr Amr distributed to the participants 30 copies of a DVD containing 4 gigabytes of lectures and slide seminars from USCAP Meetings. The cost of these DVDs was covered by the Arab Division of IAP as a gift to the Malagasy pathologists. Authorization to copy and distribute these DVDs for educational and teaching purposes was obtained by Dr Amr from the Secretary of USCAP, Dr Fred Silva.
Other guest speakers include Dr Martin Hale, IAP Vice President for Africa, who gave two lectures on pathology of HIV infection. Dr Jill Murray from South Africa had a lecture on the role of autopsy in modern medicine. Dr R Norton from Queensland, Australia gave a presentation on his experience with melioidosis and Q-fever in Northern Australia. Dr Trefor Jenkins from South Africa lectured on the impact of HIV/AIDS on blood transfusion practice in South Africa with special reference to some ethical issues. Dr Carla Carrilho from Mozambique had an interesting presentation on an autopsy study of the causes of maternal mortality in Maputo Central Hospital, Mozambique.
There were two quite interesting presentations that stood out in this meeting. One on the “Peopling of Madagascar” by Dr Himla Soodyall, Professor of Genetics at the University of the Witwaterstrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and a researcher at the Human Genomic Diversity and Disease Research Unit, Division of Human Genetics at the National Health Laboratory Service in South Africa. The other paper was on medical geography of Western Indian Ocean presented by Dr Frank W Kiel. He described his trips to medical centers and pathology units in various countries located on the Western side of the Indian Ocean.
The local Malagasy pathologists and oncologists had several oral presentations on lymphomas, multiple myeloma, ovarian tumors, extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, tuberculosis of the breast, squamous cell carcinoma of urinary bladder associated with bilharziasis, soft tissue tumors, thyroid tumors, and intestinal angiodysplasia.
On the third day of the meeting, there was a field trip to observe Madagascar villages, local hospitals and conservation efforts.
The organizers of this meeting are interested in establishing a new Division of IAP, to be named Western Indian Ocean Division and shall include pathologists from countries within islands in the Indian Ocean or countries that have costal lines on the Indian Ocean. These countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Mozambique, South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, Comoros, and Seychelles.
The issue of establishing this Division can be discussed at the Executive Committee Council when the application is submitted.

Report of the South American Region
Activities of the Brazilian Division
A formal partnership between the Brazilian Society of Pathology
(SBP) and the Brazilian Division of the IAP was formalized and approved in
the business meeting of both organizations, increasing the number of members
of the division to 1,232.
Thanks to this partnership most of the Brazilian pathologists
can be reached by internet or e-mail through the sites of the SBP/IAP and
Patocito (an electronic forum).
The last National Brazilian Congress (IAP/SBP) took place in Natal, on October
2005, with more than 800 pathologists.
In June 2006, the course Diagnostic Problems in Oncological
Surgical Pathology will take place with Dr. Cesar Moran and other speakers
from the MD Anderson Cancer Center. The event is organized by the Brazilian
Division and the Brazilian Society of Pathology.
The next national congress of the SBP/IAP will take place in Bento Gonçalves,
in the southern wine region of Brazil, in November 2007. The national Brazilian
congress (bi-annual) of the SBP/IAP of 2009 will be short and simplified to
“save energy” for the 2010 IAP International Congress.
South American Regional Activities
Most of these activities were related to the 2010 congress
with the aim of getting the participation of most South American countries

REPORT FROM DR ROBERT ECKSTEIN, IAP VICE PRESIDENT FROM AUSTRALASIA, TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE IAP, MEETING IN DENVER ON MARCH 2, 2008
Membership and Staffing of the Australasian Division in 2007
Total 574: Australia 496, New Zealand 54, others 24. Membership subscription is $132. The paid secretariat consists of two part-time staff in Sydney. The secretariat is co-located with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. The main sources of income are the annual scientific meeting and membership subscriptions. The division is financially stable.
Annual Scientific Meetings
The 3 day long 32nd annual scientific meeting was held as usual in Sydney, from 1st to 3rd June 2007, and was again very successful, with roughly 500 delegates. There were 3 invited keynote speakers from overseas. Sir James Underwood lectured on hepatic and gastrointestinal pathology , as well as providing philosophical insights into the practice of histopathology. Dr Steven Swerdlow lectured on lymphoma, and Dr Alistair Burt on hepatopathology. Dr Robin Cooke again organised the production of high quality slide seminar handouts from the major speakers. There were 12 companion club meetings on the first day of the meeting, covering a broad range of specialties. A cocktail party on that evening attracted 210 delegates. A new innovation has been the introduction of two “master classes”, which are “practical approaches” sessions held exclusively for trainees and conducted by experienced pathologists. There was a poster session which attracted 39 posters of high quality. Prizes were awarded for the best posters. There was a small but very useful trade display. The principal sponsor was Roche products. The annual scientific meeting to be held this year is from Friday May 30th to June 1st. The format will be similar to the meeting held in 2007. The overseas guest speakers will be Dr Zachary Goodman, lecturing on liver pathology and Dr Andrew Churg lecturing on pulmonary pathology.
Sponsorship of pathologists to the Annual Scientific meetings
This was judged successful in 2006 and was repeated in 2007. Two pathologists respectively from Papua new Guineas and Tonga were fully sponsored for the meeting, including airfares, registration, accommodation and living expenses. They stayed on in Australia after the meeting spending some time in local hospitals. This will be repeated in 2008.
IAP meeting in Athens 2008
The Division has agreed to provide $5000 sponsorship funding for the IAP international meeting to be held in Athens this year.
Website
The website of the Division continues to be a useful source of information, especially for forthcoming scientific meetings. Educational material, some of which is drawn from our annual scientific meetings, is also available. Links to the websites of other Divisions, and to the recently constructed Asia-Pacific website, are in place.

BDIAP EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT FOR OTHER IAP DIVISIONS and COUNTRIES
NEW SCHOOLS OF PATHOLOGY
It is pleasing that the Arab British School of Pathology has provided the model for the establishment two new Schools of Pathology in association with the BDIAP
Sri Lanka British School of Pathology
The inaugural First Sri Lanka School of Pathology took place in Colombo, September 21-23. The topic was a Gastrointestinal Pathology. and the BDIAP teachers were Neil Shepherd, Geraint Williams and Ray McMahon. The local organisors were Dr. Isha Primatilleke, Professor Dilani Lokuhetty and Professor Janaki Hewavisenthi. There were 125 participants some of whom came from India. The School was so successful that it is now planned to replace the Annual College op Pathologists of Sri Lanka Meeting and to take place every 2 years. Breast and Gynaecological pathology will be the topics for the second School in 2009.
Bosnia British School of Pathology
The inaugural first School, initiated by Dr. Bryan Warren (BDIAP Meetings Secretary) and Mr Mike Fielding from the charity Acorn Aid and locally organised by Dr. Semir Vranic, took place in August 3-5th 2007 . The topic was gastrointestinal pathology and the teachers were Neil Shepherd and Geraint Williams (sadly Dr. Bryan Warren was unable to attend). The 40 pathologists from Bosnia, Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia who attended were extremely keen and enthusiastic and the standard of the trainees was very good despite their low funding. The second School will take place in Sarejevo in 2008 on the topic of breast pathology.
THE ARAB DIVISION OF THE IAP (ADIAP)

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF PATHOLOGY VICE PRESIDENT FOR AFRICA
25th February 2008
Prof MJ Hale
The South African Division of the International Academy of Pathology held its Annual meeting from the 20th -22nd July 2007 at Bela Bela (Warmbaths). The meeting was well attended by may IAP members and the previous format of including an Educational Day in the program was continued in this meeting with considerable success. Professor Michael Wells and Professor Sir James Underwood both from the British Division of the IAP were the international guests and both presented a number of talks and slide seminars which were warmly received by the attending delegates. Visits were also made to all the Academic Centres in South Africa. The British Division of the IAP is thanked for sponsoring Professor Wells’s visit as part of their programme to foster education in pathology in English speaking Africa.
A first for the region was the inaugural meeting of the West Indian Oceans of Pathologists which was held in Antananarivo, Madagascar from the 15th – 19th August 2007. This meeting was the culmination of a dedicated, lengthy period of time that had been devoted by Dr Frank Kiel, who single-handedly, has contributed enormously to the development of Anatomical Pathology in the region. The meeting was attended by a number of IAP members including Professor M Hale and Professor S Amr from the South African and Arab Divisions respectively, with both offering their full support towards improving the practice of pathology in the region. Professor J Murray from South Africa and Dr C Carrillo from Mozambique also attended, both being IAP members. Professor T Jenkins and Professor H Soodyall were additional international delegates from the University of the Witwatersrand, both of whom gave presentations on Population Genetics of the Region from data that they have gathered over the years. The meeting was generously supported by funding from the Education Committee of the IAP.
The meeting was well attended by local pathologists who were enthusiastic in their quest for knowledge. The meeting included a field trip to observe Madagascar villages during which visits were made to the CHD2 Moramanga Government hospital enabling the international delegates to obtain first hand information into the prevailing conditions affecting the practice of medicine in that country. A visit to a neighboring nature reserve to see a number of lemur species in the wild was also undertaken. Efforts to finalize the formation of formative East African Division of the IAP continue with a constitution having been drawn-up and submitted to the IAP Executive for consideration. Members will be drawn from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. Once finalized the operation of the East African Division of the IAP will function under the umbrella of APECSA (Association of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa), in much the same way that the South African Division operates under the Federation of the South African Societies of Pathology (FSASP). It is hoped that the new Division will be launched at the APECSA meeting to held from the 22nd to the 25th October 2008 in Mombasa, Kenya.
Recent political developments in Kenya are being watched carefully by the local organizing Committee and further arrangements have been put on hold until clarity on the political impasse becomes evident. This is particularly important given that a number of international IAP delegates have confirmed their attendance at this meeting.
The British Division continued to sponsor Dr AY Kalebi’s fellowship and it is pleasing to report that he has successfully passed his Part I examination in October 2007. He is scheduled to write the Part II final examination in May 2009. With the fellowship drawing to a close, the British Division and South African Division have expressed the desire to continue with the program and find additional candidates.
Following the confirmation of the awarding of the IAP meeting to be held in 2012 in Cape Town, the South African Division called for nominations for the Organizing Committee from amongst its members with the following group of people being responsible for the various portfolios.
These are:
President: Professor M Hale
Vice President: Dr B Dietrich
Treasurer: Dr W Bates (Convener)
Secretary: Dr H Wainwright (Convener)
Marketing Committee: Dr P Davies (Convener)
Scientific Committee: Professors D Govender (Convener), L Dreyer, B Middlecote,
A Paterson, PK Ramdial, JW Schneider, A Stepien, CA Wright,
Dr E Bolding, Dr P Davies, Dr AY Kalebi (East Africa)
Professor ROC Kaschula will serve as an advisor to the Organizing Committee who will coopt additional advisors as necessary.
The Committee members have been drawn from the Private and Public sector to ensure wide and full participation by the local pathology community.
Top INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF PATHOLOGY SOUTH AMERICAN AREA Regarding the other Divisions of the Area, I would like to comment that thanks to Dr. Florabel G. Mullick’s initiative the “First Forum of the Latin-American Divisions of the International Academy of Pathology” was held in Puebla, Mexico -in the Crowne Plaza Hotel- on April 1st and 2nd, 2007. This meeting was organized by Dr. Sergio Sanchez-Sosa and with the following participants: Eduardo Santini-Araujo M.D. Vice-President for South-America
Report of activities
During the first months of 2008 all of the Presidencies and Secretariats of all the Divisions of the South-American Area of the IAP, were contacted in order to remind them of the need to cancel the payment of all the fees.
Dr. Florabel G. Mullick who talked on the following topics: “The International Academy of Pathology, 100 years of history” and “Latin-American Divisions, how we are in 2007 and where we are heading”.
Dr. Eduardo Santini-Araujo chaired the Workshop 1 “How to participate with the IAP, the Argentine experience”.
Dr. Arturo Angeles-Angeles chaired the Workshop 2 “Graduate Academic Programs in Latin-America”.
In this Workshop 2 Dr. Sergio Sanchez Sosa and Dr. Lourdes Cabrera, talked about The Mexican Program.
The objective of this Forum –proposed by Dr. Mullick- was to strengthen the presence of the International Academy of Pathology in the Latin-American countries, through encouraging and fostering their Continuing Educational Programs and at the same time to stimulate the attendance of Latin-American pathologists to the IAP International Congresses.
It had the following participants:
Florabel G. Mullick-USA. Eduardo Santini-Araujo-Argentina. Sergio Sánchez-Sosa-Mexico. Nicolás Sabillon V.-Honduras. Luis Muñoz-Fernandez-Mexico. María Lourdes Cabrera-Muñoz-Mexico. Silvana Varela-Martinez-Honduras. Estanislao Sadowinsky-Mexico. Israel Borrajero-Martinez-Cuba. Arturo Angeles-Angeles-Mexico. Reynaldo Falcon-Escobedo-Mexico. Rosa Luz Fernández-Mexico. Pilar García-Martinez-Mexico. Jaime Rios-Dalenz-Bolivia.
This Forum led to the formation of a Committee that will boost the creation and recreation of Latin American Divisions of the IAP.
According to Dr. Falcon-Escobedo`s suggestion, it was unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Eduardo Santini-Araujo -Vice-President, South American Area- as President of the Committee and of Drs. Sergio Sanchez-Sosa –Spanish Speaking North America-, Jaime Rios Dalenz -South America- and Nicolás Sabillón –Central America-, as members of the same.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Sanchez-Sosa, for the extremely well organized meeting, not only in its academic level but also in its social aspects which lead to the undoubted success of the same.
We would also like to emphazise that the presence of Dr. Florabel Mullick was key – as usual- due to her strong leadership capacity, clearly highlighting the advantages and benefits of being a member of the institution on the part of the Pathologists of the Latin American countries. Her participation determined that everyone present at the Forum was extremely enthusiastic about being organically involved with the IAP. Dr. Mullick also compromised a stronger and more fluid relationship with the Latinamerican Divisions.
During the Forum, it was also proposed to back the organization of a future new Mexican Division of the IAP by the Mexican Republic Pathology Federation.
As from this Forum the Cuban Division was able to cancel the payment of its pending fees and decided to organize an International event in La Habana in December 2008.
At the same time it has been reported by Dr. Antonio Saiz, President of the Association of Pathology of Panama, that all the necessary steps are being taken for the creation of the Panama Division, according to the IAP Bylaws and following its “Procedures for Establishing a New Division”.
